HIGHBRIDGE COACHES

Headcoach Chris FugmannCHRIS FUGMANN

Highbridge Aquatics was founded in the fall of 1990 by its present coach, Chris Fugmann. Chris grew up in Lexington and participated with the Greater Lexington Swim Association (GLSA) for 12 years. As a youngster, Chris set 18 Kentucky State Records. His background also includes water polo, when in 1975, was an All-American on the United States Water Polo Team. As a college swimmer, Chris achieved All-American honors nine times and, in 1980, became an NCAA national champion in 400 yard I.M.

Fugmann's coaching began during his college summers. Chris spent four summers as head coach of the Lexington Country Club. After graduation, he founded and coached the USS Brookhill Swim Club for six years. He also coached the Lansdowne Club for two seasons and eventually the Equestrian Woods Country Club team from 1990-1992.

Coach Fugmann is responsible for administering the Highbridge Aquatics program as well as directly coaching each of the practice groups. Chris graduated in 1982 from Centre College with honors and a B.A. in Business and Management. He is married and has two daughters ages two and four. Chris is also the owner and vice-president of Climate Control Corporation, a heating and air conditioning company in Central Kentucky. Chris was named United States Swimming's Kentucky Coach of the Year in 1986 and 1994. He continues to run a very strong, thorough competitive age-group swimming program in Nicholasville that encompasses young swimmers from ages 5 to 18.

Bob Peck:
Bob Peck started swimming for Woodamere swim club in Versailles at age 10. At 14, he started swimming year-round for GLSA in Lexington where he first met Chris. That year, he won the 100 Breaststroke at the State meet and was a member of a State Record relay. This was when he officially gave up basketball.

After winning the 100 Breaststroke at the State High School swim meet, Bob attended Division I school, Western Kentucky. Before graduating from Western in 1983, Bob had accomplished the following:

  • 6 WKU School Records.
  • 8 Individual first place finishes at the Mid-West Inter-Collegiate Swimming Championships.
  • 8 Relay first place finishes at the Mid-West Inter-Collegiate Swimming Championships.
  • 1982 Mid-West Most Valuable Swimmer.
  • 1982 WKU Most Valuable Swimmer.
  • 1983 WKU Team Captain.
  • WKU Rosecrantz Award winner (110% Award) 1980, 1981, 1983.
  • 1983 WKU Athlete of the year recipient.
  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science, with an Accounting major.
  • 6 "Mish-Mash" team records - all of which still exist (ask Bob)

In 1985, Bob moved back to Lexington and was Chris' assistant Coach at Brookhill Swim Club for the next 4 years while working as a systems analyst. After a 2 year exile in Eastern Kentucky, Bob returned to Lexington, and was reunited with Chris at Highbridge Aquatics. In 1994, Bob left the computer software industry and began working with Chris at Climate Control. In 2002, Bob accepted a position with Waterfurnace International as a Territory Manager and still works with Chris as a representative of the manufacturer.

In 1996, Bob married Angie Fister of Lexington. Angie, a former swimmer herself, is a graduate of Lafayette H.S. and the University of Kentucky and is employed at Lexmark International. They have 2 children, Michael and Emily and both of them love the water. Bob continues to swim off and on for Wildcat Masters and will be helping with Highbridge Aquatics part-time until his children become more active in the sport, at which time, Highbridge will not be able to get rid of him. Bob would like to apologize, ahead of time, to all the boys named Michael on the team who may think that Bob is always yelling at them.

Highbridge Aquatics is pleased to welcome former Highbridge Aquatics swimmer, Larissa Martin, for her first season coaching with Highbridge Aquatics. An Asbury College student, Larissa is a remarkable young lady who will be an outstanding coach for the younger groups.
